Louise Scholtz

Research Coordinator

After practicing law for 15 years, Louise joined WWF South Africa in 2011 where she held a variety of different positions. Starting as the Programme Manager for Energy, Louise led an integrated project team with the aim of enabling a low carbon and equitable transition of the electricity sector.

Given the important role of cities as part of this transition, the project expanded under her leadership to include an urban focus as well as climate, energy, sustainable procurement, equitable urban food systems and nature-based-solutions. The multidisciplinary programme encompassed pilot projects to test proof of concepts, original research, training and advocacy.

Louise also served as the South African lead on numerous international WWF initiatives (FOCAC, OnePlanetCity Challenge and Climate Solvers) and engaged South Africa’s financial sector to unlock increased investment for a just transition in the electricity, transport and agriculture sectors. As a consultant, Louise has supported cities on energy transitions at the local level and compiled a World Resource Institute-commissioned training manual to enable city officials in the Global South to design, implement and monitor nature-based solutions.

Louise Scholtz holds a Law Degree (BALLB), Masters in Business Administration (MBA), and a Masters in Development and Planning (MPhil) from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
